Default What he said...

I want to 2nd GYRO's request. There needs to be a mechanism in RbRx to allow for deactivation and reactivation without uninstalling the program.

Right now there is *NO* convenient way to IMAGE, PARTITION (resize, add) or DEFRAGMENT a RbRx'd protected disk. These are regular disk maintenance functions that need to be done, especially IMAGing for purposes of protecting your disk against hardware failure. It really is unacceptable to completely uninstall RbRx just to perform these functions then reinstall the entire application once again.

Personally I don't need to backup the snapshots (I'm sure others would like to), I just need the state upon deactivation... kinda like a re-baseline.

Other needs have been fairly well articulated... feel free to chew on them.

Thanks!

Default Backup solution

As I mention in my main post HERE, I don't see why RBRx can't do its own partition imaging from the console - after all, the RBRx software understands the data structure and could easily write it out to an image file somewhere. Restoring it should be available from the boot menu (in case you are doing it because something has crashed).

I second the proposals re MBR management.

Default File Synchronization

Greetings developers - File Synchronization or "Keep the files from the current image when I do a Rollback." Currently this is done in a very kludgy way... trying to restore the files from the RESTART image after the Rollback is complete and the system is running. These restorations completely fail (Rollback informs us) on any files which are opened for writing by any active application following the reboot. Basically the app must be stopped and the files copied over manually with a restart of the app following the file update... not very useful as features go.

This process should be accomplished by the nonWindows-based CONSOLE following the actual Rollback and prior to the reboot... a very clean implementation with no running app or Windows conflicts.

Pls consider... thanks!

Default Use one baseline on several computers

I don't even know if this is possible, but as we have 10 course computers all set up in the same way with the same hardware it would be great if you could take a snapshot from one computer and store the file on a server and use that snapshot to set up a baseline on the other computers. Sort of like combining an imaging program with rollback.

I wish that it would be possible to update to a new version without uninstalling the previous version, so I donīt loose my snapshots.

Default Multiple Physical Hard Drives

I have just purchased a SSD, and I have moved my Win-7 OS partition onto it. In order to allow my OS partition to fit onto the SSD, I had to move my Windows User Profile off off my system partition, to a different one. (I found helpful advice in various forums on how to do that, and on how to create Junction Link to keep the new user profile location connected to its original location.)

Unfortunately however, this means that key parts of my system are now spread over two physical drives. If I continue to use Rollback Rx, I am going to have to decide which physical drive to have it protect, and I am going to have to live with much less rollback protection than I enjoyed from Rollback Rx with my previous system configuration.

Before making this change, I thought carefully about whether the performance improvements that I expect from my new system configuration were worth sacrificing the superb system recovery features of Rollback Rx.

I wish that I did not have to make this trade-off. I wish that Rollback Rx would protect multiple physical drives on my system. Is it technically impossible for the technology behind Rollback Rx to be extended in this way, and if not, is this extension of functionality on the development roadmap?

David

Hi David,

Welcome to the Horizon DataSys forum. I haven't seen anything official yet but we're looking forward to new developments in Rollback Rx. I'm sure the dev team will be trying to implement new features as feasible. On that note, there is exciting news about a new version, RollBack Rx V10, that is being worked on for next year.

Thanks for the feedback and thanks to everyone for the suggestions!

Best,
Jacob

I have to agree. Would be a lot easier to push an "Update" button like most programs rather than having to uninstall and reinstall.
