Just trying out Rollback RX 9.1 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. The program works fine but I have encountered a Windows 'Sleep' problem. This is a function I use quite a bit.
A mouse-click/mouse-movement won't wake the computer up. I have to press the start button on the computer to get the computer going. Then I get the message about a bad shutdown and the 'Safe Mode - Start Normally' options. This has happened both times I've tried it (early days yet) and only since Rollback was installed. Starting normally on the first occasion initiated a disk check but just a slow boot up the second time. I have a Disk image on another Disk I can use for confirmation that the computer works OK without Rollback or, if necessary, to try another install of Rollback from scratch. Thanks for any suggestions. |

Issue has been identified/discussed previously. See:
http://horizondatasys-forum.com/roll...-function.html After I initiated a Support Ticket, I received a link to a version of Rollback Rx that corrects the problem. I, too, use Win 7 64-bit. The version I received is RollbackRx 20100603v91 Build 2695237646. Submit a Support Ticket at Horizon DataSys Support Portal Hope this helps. Chuck |

Thanks for the helpful replies. I kicked myself after making the post because it was then that I found the thread linked to by cdressel, although it's maybe a little different because I didn't get the blue screen. It's just that the computer wouldn't wake up no matter how much I shook it.
.I took RollBack Rx off in the end by using a Windows disk image (made using Windows 7's own disk imaging function) that is stored on a second internal hard drive. Another way of winding the clock back that I have been using. One of the reasons I tried RollBack Rx was to see if this method of winding the clock back was better than using a disk image made with Windows 7. RollBack Rx certainly has a number of extra features over that but I'm put off a little by discussion in another thread about imaging a disk that has RollBack Rx and a number of snapshots on it. In the end I decided that although RollBack Rx is mighty good software generally, it didn't hold too much advantage for me because I have the second internal drive with lots of space on it for storing disk images made by Windows 7 itself, or even some third-party program or other. I'd have no hesitation in recommending RollBack Rx for keeping a computer in good order if used on a computer with a single disk or partition. Last edited by mart; 08-16-2010 at 08:09 AM. |

Hi Mart
You may want to hold fire re. ditching RB Rx as I believe that HDS have a potential solution in their hands which is currently being tested given that I logged a ticket about the same problem and they have sent me a test build to try that apparently resolves the issue. I have yet to install it and try it but from reading the forum I understand that some have and it does seem to resolve 'sleep-related' issues. In terms of usefulness I have to say that I image my disk regularly but have still found that RB Rx provide more granularity in terms of recovering from an issue (I take a snapshot every 2 hours and so can return to prior position based on that frequency rather than having to use a while image...it is however end the end down to what you feel most comfortable with. Can report back that I have installed a test build that the Support Team kindly provided as a result of logging a ticket, and so far (some two weeks now) I have come across no issues with RB Rx and the Win 7 Sleep functionality.
Hope that helps? Balders |
